Yesterday, Freedom Leaf, Inc. entered into a Mutual Letter of Understanding to acquire a legacy specialty apparel company, www.Hippo-Tees.com
Freedom Leaf CEO, Cliff Perry stated, "The addition of the Hippo-Tees brand and founder, Jeffrey Axelrod's 46 years of merchandising experience under the Freedom Leaf umbrella fills a necessary purpose for promotions, branding and marketing. Mr. Axelrod has the experience to not only manage the specialty t-shirt line but any product lines that are required to fulfill our clients' and Freedom Leaf's needs. In specialty merchandising, t-shirts, Polos and Sport shirts represent $5 billion in sales, far surpassing any other category."
In 1970, Jeffrey Axelrod's company, Hip-O-Potamus Creations, became the first licensed manufacturer of silk-screen and private label t-shirts for rock-n-roll musicians, their concert tours, and the pop entertainment industry. It all started when the wife of The Grateful Dead's drummer asked if he could make 200 shirts for the band's tour that was starting in a few days. With that, their entrance into the rock-n-roll business was created.
Eventually, Hip-O-Potamus became one of the biggest companies in the country for silk screening, morphing into a 50,000-square-foot, $10-million business with anywhere from 40-100 employees at any given time. Clients and brands included the Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, Santana, Steve Miller, Pablo Cruise, Bill Graham Presents, Jefferson Starship, the Bee Gees, Willie Nelson, CSN&Y, and many more. In between the rock groups, the company also got the licensing for such movies as Star Wars, Saturday Night Fever, Amadeus, The English Patient and many others. Hip-O-Potamus was also the first company to do printing for Greenpeace and other organizations to raise money to protect endangered species.
When the California marijuana initiative took place in the 70s, Axelrod and co-founder, Barry Anderson found themselves smoking hot in the middle of the foray, creating t-shirts to get the vote out and also to raise funds for such groups as Mothers for Marijuana and NORML.
After selling the business, Jeffrey traveled the world. Growing bored he opened his new business in Las Vegas about 3 years ago. His brand and experience will provide a new chapter creating revenue for our clients and Freedom Leaf.
Last week, Freedom Leaf CEO, Cliff Perry announced and introduced their equity partnership in Plants to Paper, a new company that has filed the patent on the first ever rolling papers & blunt wraps to be produced from Cannabis Sativa, Marijuana to the industry at the Cannabis World Congress & Exposition at the Javits Center in NYC.
Freedom Leaf will be working together with Blue Moon Advisors in incubating the new companies by providing the necessary guidance on working within the Cannabis Industry.
